Aged around 16 – 19? Enjoy looking at modern and contemporary art, but not sure about some of it and want to find out more?
This summer, the Butler Gallery is working with a group of young people to look at and question the visual art side of the Kilkenny Arts Festival. Weʼre starting with an ʻart attackʼ marathon of different art workshops including drawing, painting, photography, film and installation in various venues in the city from the 19 – 30 July, to try out different art techniques for ourselves.
In early August, weʼll start visiting art galleries in the city and meeting professional art critics writing in different newspapers, magazines and on blogs in Ireland. Once the festival starts, weʼll be going to see exhibitions, interviewing curators and artists and telling people what we think of them through a blog, short films and any other means necessary!
The project includes training in blogging and podcasting, and weʼll be celebrating on Kilkennyʼs Culture Night 2010 in September in Kilkenny Castle. This opportunity is completely free of charge and food and materials will be included throughout the project. Donʼt miss out on this chance to be part of the first Young Criticsʼ Group in Kilkenny!
If youʼre around for the last two weeks in July and the first two weeks in August and would be interested in hanging around art galleries in Kilkenny during this time, then please get in touch with the Butler Gallery.
